Audience Research

In the development of ideas for my music video I asked some people:

After listening to Noisettes ‘That Girl’, what representations and scenes would you expect to see in a video for it?

“I would expect to see lots of close ups of the girl looking at the guy she loves. This will represent the meaning of the song”

“I would expect to see perhaps a friendship group as she’s fallen for a friend. Perhaps they could be playing around and representing teenagers today in a positive light”

“Love has obviously got to be represented, maybe visual images of hearts presented in an artistic way. Love can also be shown through happiness, lots of close ups of smiles and eye gazing”

“I’d expect to see a beach scene! The song has an up beat tone so people having fun on the beach would be cool and fun. Even just people having fun would be great as the song is happy!”

“After listening to the song in question, I’d expect to see lots of intimate shots of the girl dreaming about the one she love. This would be a great plot for the song.”

“Hearts, fun, singing, dancing, sports?”

“You could represent love through the emotions of the actors? And make it fun at the same time, the song has a positive beat so no heartbreak or crying…”

This research has helped me to develop my initial ideas of filming a music video that features a group of friends with one being in love and the guy is oblivious. This research has also given me a boost in going ahead with my ideas as the people i have questioned see similar conventions and representations.
