Scouting For Girls released their third studio ’The Light Between Us’ album in 2012, following the single ‘Love How It Hurts’.

What I love about this album cover is the use of lighting. The hands are placed to create a heart shape, then you have bright light shining through the heart leaving the hands in shadow. This beautiful image represents how love can brighten your life and make you shine as an individual. The two hands coming together also connote two people becoming one and connected. My interpretation of this album cover, I see the light shining through the hands as sunlight. For me this then represents a natural source and how natural love is. Even though this cover may seem like one image with titles, the powerful message conveyed by this image isn't ruined or overshadowed by fancy effects. Looking at the titles, the band and album name are at the top and bottom of the cover, this is done so that they don’t disturbed the primary image. Scouting For Girls have designed their album cover appropriately for the music they produce. This is important in fulfilling the consumers expectations because if the album cover contradicts the music then consumers won’t be purchasing what they initially thought.
In comparison to ‘The Light Between Us’ album cover, ‘Love How It Hurts’ features a simple illustration of a heart balloon that has been let go and left. In keeping with the heart image, Scouting For Girls have maintained the theme of love and all the emotions that come with it. What I love about this cover is that is describes the song using a simple drawing. The song is about being in love but the feeling isn't mutual, the pure red balloon that has been let go symbolises that if you love someone you should let them go. The bright red dominates the cover and represents strong love. Unlike ‘The Light Between Us’ cover, this one has its titles in the center This is done to allow focus and give space around the focal point, otherwise it could end up looking crowded.

Now looking at a different side to the band ‘Everybody Wants To Be On TV’ sees the band take on a more up beat sound and this is complimented by the album artwork which is bright and colourful.
Taking on a vintage image the artwork features an old fashioned TV and styling. To reinforce this image the album cover is bright and bold meaning it is significantly different from their usual style of simple illustrations and photos. ‘Everybody Wants To Be On TV’ cover uses a basic colour pallet using only the primary colours. I feel this allows it to the album cover to remain simple yet stand out off the shelf at HMV. ‘Scouting For Girls’ is the dominating of title and takes up most of the space leaving other titles in a smaller font. In comparison to ’The Light Between Us’ album cover, the placement of the titles are placed confidently because they’re apart of the artwork. Whereas ’The Light Between Us’ album cover, titles are placed out of the way so that they don’t disturb the beautiful photo.
To promote the album and tour, Scouting For Girls have designed posters that reflect the album artwork itself. Poster 1’s intention is to cause hype and excitement for the release date of the Scouting For Girls’ new album. With the date in big bold white numbers, the release date cannot be mistaken or missed. Looking closer, at the bottom of the page there is a link to the bands website and it also states what format the album can be bought in ‘CD/Download’. Getting fans to visit the band website could then lead to sales in gig tickets, album sales and sales in merchandise. This method of getting one product to sell another is called synergy and is commonly used in the advertisement industry. On poster 2, the album cover is again featured on it and there is also a list of tour dates. This poster promotes Scouting For Girls’ tour and the album.
From this research I've gained a wider knowledge in how bands advertise and promote themselves. With the use of synergy, a poster can be constructed to sell more than one product. When I come to designing my poster I’ll take into account this method and aim to advertise the band and their products.
